adventure time.

I'm not going to pretend that I either know or have seen very much Adventure Time at all. I only heard about it about a month ago (where have I been?); since then, however, I can't stop noticing how often people mention it, and for good reason. For those unfamiliar, Adventure Time is a cartoon children's show that stars Jake the Dog and Finn the Human and follows their various, you know, adventures. It has such a great combination of surrealistic visuals and grounded emotions, which has lead a large percentage of the fanbase to be adults. PBS's IdeaChannel has taken on this phenomenon:

It's an interesting look at nostalgia and how it is not only an emotion, but can also be a motivation for action (even if that action is just watching a television show).

If you are looking for a way to waste more time on the interwebs, I highly recommend watching more of the IdeaChannel's videos, as they provide some good perspective on a lot of internet and nerd culture. Also, so many AD references.

clear eyes...

I have about a million other things to do this week, so I'm going to make this super quick.

I have recently become reobsessed with Friday Night Lights (I had previously watched the first 1.5 seasons), and I'm now determined to actually finish it. While watching the show, this song caught my ear. Something about it does reflect the small-town tragic Southern romanticism. And it is originally by Bright Eyes. Of course.

And this one is from a playlist I found that had "Devil Town" on it. It is pretty much unrelated, but I like it so whatever.

And now my Netflix subscription is on hold, #collegestudentproblems, so I can't watch anymore FNL. But on second thought that is probably best for my sanity. And midterms.

funny people.

So I literally just finished watching this video of comedic television actresses (Teri Hatcher, Amy Poehler, Kaley Cuoco, Lea Michele, Jenna Fischer, and Julie Bowen (who went to my high school)) doing a round table and I enjoyed it so much I wanted to share it immediately. I thought all the women had really interesting things to say about the industry and about being funny, especially Amy Poehler's comments about the question of 'women in comedy'.

The clip is about an hour so it is a little bit of a time investment, but it is totally worth it because it is so chock full of funny, touching, and really inspiring stories. Ok, now I'm just gushing. Just watch it.

cinema studies.

I kind of want to live in all these places, they are so beautiful. But I would want them unrenovated. There is so much more character to them when they are in shambles, only ghosts of their past splendor...

Ok enough with the poetic crap. The real reason that I'm not going out and buying an abandoned theater? Besides lack of funds, the ridiculousness of it, and the impracticality, I would say The Phantom of the Megaplex. No, not Opera, Megaplex. This was that Disney Channel movie from a while back. I don't really remember much about the plot anymore, but I remember it totally freaked me out. (I was that kid who couldn't watch anything remotely scary. Even Rugrats was too much occasionally.) And I remember that it had that kid who played Oliver in The O.C. starred in it. Remember him? He was insane in the membrane. God I used to love that show.

Anyways, I digress. Old theaters are awesome. Buying one is now on the life to-do list.

Note: The last picture here is of a movie theater in the town where my dad works. Weird coincidence.

snog: british for kissing.

WARNING: Do not watch this unless you want to get totally addicted.

Damn it British television, you get me every time. This time is it Snog. Marry. Avoid. The show is hosted by some British singer/personality Jenny Frost, who I don't think I had ever seen before, and involves what my friend Kim deemed, "the Snookis of England". That is the best description I could ever imagine.

welcome back ron swanson.

That's right Parks and Recreation is finally (FINALLY!) back! So exciting. I think it is my favorite show on television right now. It is just hilarious and everyone in the ensemble would be a standout in any other show. And I'm so glad they brought back Adam Scott and Rob Lowe. Party Down (which Scott was the star of) was a gem that was just too underappreciated to be kept on the air. And Scott was also on Veronica Mars, which is a major plus. So coming into Parks and Rec I really had an idea of who Adam Scott was. RobLowe, on the other hand, wasn't completely unfamiliar to me but I don't really remember seeing him in anything. So his ridiculous character was a (welcome) surprise. The flirtation between him and Ann (Rashida Jones) is adorable, and I especially liked Ann's imitation of Chris (Lowe's character). Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) were superb as well, as usual.

So besides watching Parks and Recreation, I also went to Savers to do a little shopping today. Score. I love going to Savers. It is kind of hit or miss and I'd say today was a hit. In a weird kind of way. Most of the stuff I got was bad looking on the hanger but screamed to me that it had potential. So I decided to go for it. Here's what I got.

See? All kind of sack-like. Until...

Magic! I think my favorite is the one all the way to the right. It is a little Winona Ryder, but I'm feeling it. The middle one was the most work to alter (though it honestly wasn't that much) and I'm not sure if it is still too disco-y. It's a maybe. And the one on the left is in the middle. I like it (I'm wearing it right now because my house is seriously freezing), but I'm afraid I cut it too short.

I also got a pretty sweet ski sweater and a barn coat.

So, overall it was just a win-win-win, in the words of Michael Scott, kind of day.

sympathy for the devil.

Wow, I feel like I haven't done this in ages, though it has only been a couple of days. To be fair I have traveled to a different state, climate, and seemingly, season. I am now on my last leg of this journey, livin' it up in Miami. Not really. But I am in Miami visiting my fellow Wellesley woman Nathalie. And it is awesome. It feels like a strange mix of summer and school.

We went to the beach yesterday (The beach! In January!) and tanned. Well, tanned would be the wrong word. More like sat out in the sun, sweating, trying to get a little color while not looking like a lobster. Mission kind of accomplished. It is a good thing we did that the first day though because we have spent the second half of yesterday and the better half of today sitting on the couch watching Dexter. Which is so good. Seriously that show is quickly becoming one of my favorites, though it doesn't help with my sleep patterns. Also Netflix instawatch only goes until season 2 so I could be going through some serious withdrawl soon. Watch out.

One thing I really love about the show, besides the fact that I am watching it in the dark in Miami (sarcasm), is that it is so morally ambiguous. You totally want Dexter to be good, but is what he is doing good? Is it the best alternative? What does it mean about us that we are sympathizing with him. Oh god I'm turning into my brother. Or worse, my dad. But this stuff is really interesting, pretentious postulating or not.

Anyways, that's it for me tonight. Off to sleep (I hope)!

Night.
