So I've been back at Wellesley for a little more than a week now without anything to do. I had "job training" but that mostly consisted of sitting in the library for about two hours a day and getting paid for it. Which is awesome, of course, but also is making for something to actually begin. And gave me a lot of free time to, what else, watch movies.
One of my best friends was also in limbo with me for the past week so she joined in the copious amount of sitting around and watching films. It all started with a French thriller (Point Blank). Now I am about the last person you would expect to be watching suspenseful movies, I jump at just about anything and was scared shitless when I watched Signs when I was younger. Those haunted hayride things are my version of hell, and not in an exhilarating and fun way. So when Camylle suggested it, I was like, "Um...sure, but I'm really tired so if my eyes are closed, it's just that...". To my surprise, it was pretty enjoyable.
The next day we went to go see The Bourne Legacy, which I liked mostly because Jeremy Renner is such an awesome and believable badass. (Rachel Weisz was kind of useless unfortunately.) When we got home from the matinee (hey, we're college students, we're allowed to be cheap and lame), we turned on Brick. I had seen it before, a couple years previous, and remembered thinking it was interesting, but other than that I was kind of blank. For those who don't know, Brick was a film made in 2006 starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and basically transports a 1940s noir film into modern Southern California. It is twisty, turny, and very stylistic with its desaturated colors and too smart for reality dialogue. It's definitely a cool movie worth seeing, even if the characters are a little shallow.
Independently I watched Memento, Christopher Nolan's most popular film before the Batman series. Camylle and I had watched the trailer, but she wasn't into it, so I crawled into my couch and grabbed a pillow just in case my eyes had to go somewhere besides the screen. Fortunately there weren't very many pop-ups, it was mostly just very cerebral. The film starts at the end of the story and moves backwards, often repeating scenes along the way, making the viewer assess and reassess situations constantly. It was kind of like trying to piece together someone else's dream. That is until the last twenty minutes where everything changes and the truth comes to light, and you are like holy crap!!!
Finally we watched Guy Ritchie's Snatch, and it was exactly what I wanted it to be: British, quick, and fun in a stylized violence kinda way.
And now I'm working on the first half of Entertainment Weekly's Best Movies You've Never Seen. More like Worst Grades You've Ever Seen. Let the procrastination begin!

my life according to instagram.
I'm feeling lazy right now. And choir is running my life. So here are some photos. I instagrammed them, so there is some effort there.
My peeps. Thay be cray.
My peeps. Thay be cray.
My friend Mayrah and I did a little exploring with a camera from the 1930s a couple of weeks ago. It was freezing, but totally worth it.
And finally, China! My mom and I went for a week to Beijing and Shanghai. It was completely amazing, and so different from what I imagined. I don't think a trip has ever made me think so much.
I will be back soon.
After this weekend. After choir. After I have my life back.

matt & kim.
So Matt & Kim came to campus yesterday in the honor of the last day of classes and it was so good. They were absolutely adorable. Matt was so sweet and funny in his "mcing". And Kim, she's just kinda a badass. But a badass who actually smiles and looks like she loves what she is doing, which is the best kind. And she's from Rhode Island. I just about fainted when I heard that (I'm from the Ocean State as well) and during the whole concert I just wanted to chant "Rhode Island!". It took all my will power to resist.
The concert really was great though. They had so much energy it was insane. When they played "Daylight", (they saved the best for last), everyone went crazy! They also played some random songs like "Jump On It" by the one, the only, Sir Mix-a-lot and "Better Off Alone", which everyone sang along to. The crowd really got into it, probably because were all so happy that classes are over. I kind of turned into a head banger for a little while, which was tons of fun. And now we just have to get through finals...awesome. Thankfully I only really have papers and portfolios, but still, it is very stressful.
Sorry my pictures are kind of crappy, I was much more focused on my head banging. Cause I'm all into that now.

almost there.
Wow I have been so busy lately! This weekend was full of 'society' events (basically Wellesley's version of sororities) that I attended because my two best friends here are each in one. Guests from all over the country came! (And I'm not kidding about that one, we had people from New York and Miami. We are so cultured and worldly.) The campus was teeming with boys! (Seriously on that one too, I've never seen so many males on our campus before.) Needless to say, shenanigans ensued.
This, coupled with the fact that finals are next week and I had about twenty pages of a paper due yesterday meant no time for blogging. Sad face. But mark this as my triumphant return. Well, hopefully. This week will probably also be crazy insane but I will try my best to consistently post. And then finals. And then summer!
Just some things I've seen around and liked. If anyone knows the source, let me know, I just found these on my computer.
I really love that last one. The perfect summer drink.

a retrospective of a retrospective.
But wait, now that I'm writing on this, that makes three degrees of retrospection. Gah, that is way too confusing. Let's just move on shall we?
This is really late because I actually went to the Davis Museum's retrospective of El Anatsui's retrospective (When I Last Wrote to You about Africa) about a week ago, I have been just too busy to get it up here about it. But finally I have some pictures.
First of the all El Anatsui's work was great. I had never heard of the Ghana-born artist before, but he makes really dynamic pieces of art out of all sorts of materials including recyclables, clay, and wood. If you get a chance to see any of his work in person, really do it because so many of the aesthetic details cannot be captured through photographs.

And now presenting...drum roll...Wendy Chen!
That's right. That bodice is a keyboard. Whaaaaa?

You probably wouldn't have known that that was made of trash, but it was. Also can I just say that the Wellesley Davis Museum's showing of When I Last Spoke to You about Africa was the US debut of the retrospective. Yeah, we're kinda important. (It is Spring Open Campus so I'm in plug-Wellesley mode a little bit, don't mind me.)
My main motivation for going to the show was to see the marvelous designs of my friend and floormate Wendy Chen. She submitted a dress to a contest for recycled fashion that the Davis was hosting, and holy crap, it was awesome. All the entries were really impressive, but I have to say that Wendy's shined the most. But maybe I'm a little biased. See for yourself.

a marathon of a week.
Oh, I am so funny. Not really.
But really this has been a very long week. That is probably why I haven't posted in so long, but now I feel horrible about it. I feel as though it is only getting to get busier, but I will try to stop and blog (the flowers aren't out yet, so smelling them isn't an option).
Anyways, Marathon Monday was a blast! I had heard about it but being there and standing at the rails was so exciting! Basically Wellesley in the halfway point in the Boston Marathon so just about every Wellesley College students goes out to the streets, which are closed to cars, and cheers with signs and cowbells. The signs are perhaps the best part. Some go tradition, "Halfway there, living on a prayer!", while some express themselves a little bit more suggestively, "Kiss Me! It's my first time!" or "Kiss Me! I'm a marathon virgin!". The whole kissing thing is kinda strange but more wholesome than it sounds. Runners grab girls and kiss them as they pass by. For some girls puckering their lips takes most of their time, while others are more concerned with screaming themselves hoarse. Either way, it is awesome.
Everyone comes out for Marathon Monday. Afterwards there is fun to be had in Munger Meadow, where SBOG (the Party Planning Committee of Wellesley) puts on a barbeque and beer garden. It was great, especially since Nat was in the frog suit for a while.
I relish in the embarassment of others. (What? I'm only human.)
Overall just a (especially) great day to be a Wellesley Woman!

i really want to go outside and make it light all day.
It is kinda getting warmish here, finally, and it makes me want spring more and more. It has also just been sunny lately, so that makes me want to walk around the lake and take beautiful photographs. Unfortunately there is still snow on the ground (boo!) and I am right in the midst of midterms (hiss!), so this is not going to happen too soon.
A girl can dream.

Today I heard that I am going to be an RA next year and thus I'm super pumped! Cue the happy hippie music!
Cheers!

fashion week: erin fetherston.

I continue to find it funny that all the bloggers that I read go to fashion week, go back home, and are like damn, it is actually winter out there. Hell yeah it is. While they were looking all cute in California and the like, I (and my fellow New Englanders) have been freezing my ass off. And when it is consistently 25 degrees outside fashion can take a little bit of a backseat. It may be March (finally!) but that doesn't mean that we are really getting any closer to the dream-like summer that I am constantly longing for.
Luckily tomorrow I am going into Boston/Cambridge to go thrift shopping. Yes! I'll try to borrow (aka kidnap) a camera from a friend (mine is hating me right now) so that I can get some good shots and post them. Then you can see the man behind the mask. Bum, bum, bum. Just kidding. I'm not a man. And I don't wear a mask. Usually.
Also I feel so accomplished. I just caught up on my 300+ bloglovin queue. That's the most work I've done in a week. It may also explain why I'm feeling a little crabby cakes right now. Hence my use of bold.

in the summertime...
Here in Wellesley it is SO. NOT. SUMMER. We get snow just about everyday and while it is beautiful, it is a pain in the ass to maneuver and just kinda gets you down after a while. February is the worst.
So, for your viewing pleasure, select pieces from Moschino Cheap And Chic. Rosella Jardini obviously understands the blues. And how to cure them.
I feel happier already.

Dreaming of beach days.
Peter Sellers in a shot that I am absolutely in love with. And was a total pain in the ass to get by the way.

Nothing like a little French New Wave to brighten your day.
Indira Ghandi. A Wellesley woman if I ever saw one.
Anyone have any thoughts?
